According to SONY President Hiroki Totoki, a price cut for the PlayStation 5 would be “very difficult” due to little potential for savings.
In its recently published financial report, SONY announced that it had shipped a total of 54.8 million PlayStation 5 consoles since its launch in late 2020.
In addition, the original forecast number of 25 million consoles shipped in the current financial year was revised downwards to 21 million consoles shipped.
Another interesting topic that SONY President Hiroki Totoki commented on is a possible price reduction for the PlayStation 5. According to Totoki, this would be “very difficult” because, unlike its predecessors, the console offers very little scope for savings.
Instead, the company is focusing on finding a good balance between profitability, user engagement and consoles sold. Currently, monthly active users are the most important aspect of the business, Totoki said.
