“Sound is Survival” – at least that’s what it says on the box of the JBL Quantum 910P Console Wireless headset. In the detailed hardware test, we reveal whether the gaming headphones are convincing and make it easier to survive in tough titles like “Helldivers 2”.
Speakers, in-ear headphones, microphones, gaming headsets: the JBL company specializes in everything that has to do with good sound. Quality is clearly the priority here. Where other providers are content with compromise solutions, JBL’s products usually belong to the upper class.
With the JBL Quantum 910P Console Wireless, they recently presented a high-quality Bluetooth headset for the PlayStation 5 and even competed with the official Pulse Elite thanks to optimized 3D sound. In the test, however, the gaming headset proves its strengths and clearly shows how closely gaming fun and sound are linked.
This is included with the gaming headset!
The JBL Quantum 910P Console Wireless comes in a blue and black cardboard slipcase. Inside, in addition to the gaming headset, there is a jack and a sufficiently long USB-C cable that we use to charge the device. A USB dongle is included in the delivery, with which we can, for example, connect the headset to the PlayStation 5.
Very nice: As a small bonus, the headset comes with a quick-start guide and the usual paperwork, as well as a small velvet bag in which we can store our new darling beautifully and safely. With a recommended retail price of CHF 228.99, the gaming headset undoubtedly belongs in the upper price range, but offers a whole range of functions and setting options.
Feature-Wunder
At first glance you immediately notice: the rather massive, white headset is anything but lightweight. At just under 420g it has a solid weight. The test subject is 20.05 x 16.27 x 12.22 cm tall and is almost infinitely adjustable, so that it sits easily even on large heads without pressing. The ear cups can be rotated and can therefore be adjusted individually.
When the headset is turned on, the headphones light up and pulsate blue. If you like to optimize your LED settings, you will find different presets here and can also add your personal style. Of course, lighting affects battery life. According to the manufacturer, the latter is around 40 hours. Our test impression confirms this official information.
There are a number of buttons and dials on the headphones themselves that you can use to adjust settings while playing. On the left you will find the switch for switching the noise canceling functions on and off. There are two dials underneath: one for the basic volume and one for regulating the game sound and audio chat. Below there is another button for muting the microphone. All functions are easily accessible with the left hand and allow the basic functions to be quickly adjusted.
There is also a so-called boom microphone on the left ear cup, which you can fold up and down again with a simple hand movement. Thanks to echo and noise suppression, the microphone delivers very good audio quality and also easily filters out background noise. We particularly liked the small light-emitting diode slightly above the microphone. It shows you again whether the radio is currently activated. Mega practical: In “dongle mode” the JBL Quantum 910P Console Wireless offers so-called “dual source”. So on the one hand you are connected to the game, but you can also establish a further connection to your smartphone and use it to make calls, listen to music or use voice chats like Discord.
Important: Although JBL is targeting the PlayStation 5 with the 910P Console Wireless, the headset can of course also be used on other devices. For example, it works easily with the Nintendo Switch, a PC or via a cable connection with the Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X. However, it should be mentioned at this point that the headset only allows surround sound under certain conditions. In cable mode it works on almost all devices, but only runs in stereo mode. The same applies to Bluetooth operation on the supported platforms. On PlayStation 4/5, Nintendo Switch and Mac you can access JBL QuantumSPATIAL 360 via wireless technology (2.4 GHz) based on the included dongle. On the PC, however, there is JBL QuantumSPHERE 360. Xbox owners in particular are looking into the 3D tube, but there is a special edition for them with the JBL Quantum 360X.
