On the morning of February 17, the Progress MS-26 spacecraft successfully docked with the Zvezda module on the Russian segment of the ISS, Rosokosmos reported. It delivered 2.52 tons of cargo, including scientific equipment, food for astronauts, fuel, water and nitrogen. The ship will operate in space for about six months.
“At 9:06 Moscow time, Progress MS-26 automatically docked with the Zvezda module of the Russian segment of the ISS. At the Moscow Flight Control Center, the rendezvous and docking operations were supervised by the head of Roscosmos, Yuri Borisov,” the Roscosmos Telegram channel reported.
Progress MS-26 launched on a Soyuz-2.1a launch vehicle from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on February 15. On board there are 2.52 tons of cargo: 1.48 tons of equipment for the station, clothing, food, medical and sanitary products for the crew; 580 kg of fuel; 420 kg of water; 40 kg nitrogen. Interestingly, Progress MS-26 also carries chocolates with natural ingredients, made at the Red October factory, especially for the commander of the cosmonaut corps, Oleg Kononenko. In addition, the space truck will deliver a gift for cosmonaut Nikolai Chub from his family.
Progress MS-26’s cargo includes consumables for the Fullerene experiment to grow fullerite, a third crystalline form of carbon and a new class of semiconductors; transformable structure made of polymer composites with shape memory effect; as well as equipment for the Orbita-MG experiment to control pressurized shells on long-term space objects.
According to the plan, the Progress MS-26 flight to the ISS was supposed to take 50 hours and 47 minutes. At the station, the new ship took the place of the Progress MS-24, which burned up in the atmosphere on February 13, and its remains sank in the Pacific Ocean.
