According to Deadline, cult French director Luc Besson (Leon, The Fifth Element) is preparing a big-budget reimagining “Dracula” Brama Stoker.
The main role in the film, Dracula himself, will be played by Caleb Landry Jones (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” “Dogman”). He will be accompanied by two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz (“Inglourious Basterds,” “Alita: Battle Angel”)—the latter’s role is unknown. They want to involve other famous actors in the project.
Besson wants to explore a deeper side of Dracula’s story, focusing on his origins and his relationship with his wife. Deadline’s sources also mention several epic and impressive scenes in the film.
It is expected that the film will have a large budget by the standards of European cinema, but not at the level “Valerian and the Cities of a Thousand Planets”. Filming is set to begin this year, and production will be handled by Luc Besson Productions and EuropaCorp.
