Last week, Funday Games and Ghost Ship Publishing released Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, a spin-off of the co-op shooter released in 2020. Considering that the game is a spin-off and a budget title, the number of players was already convincing at launch. But the big surprise came last weekend: more than three times as many players were with the dwarves at the same time as before. On February 17th there were 17,313 simultaneous users, now the peak is 56,943 (via SteamDB).
Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor still has room for improvement
With the start of everyday work and school, the positive trend has died down a bit, but overall things are looking very good for Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor. On the one hand, the user rating is currently 83 percent positive reviews (very good), but could be increased with updates and new content. On the other hand, it is an early access title that can of course improve until the final release. The peak of Deep Rock Galactic was only 46,687 users logged in at the same time.

The reason why Survivor can beat the much more ambitious original in terms of player numbers is probably due to the gameplay. Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor is an autoshooter in which the dwarves are constantly shooting without doing anything. You will be attacked by hordes of enemies while the player must try to unlock ever better equipment and abilities. This gameplay is easily accessible and can quickly become addictive. Anyone who has played Vampire Survivor might agree.
