Announced during the evening of The Game Awards 2023, Kemuri immediately attracted the attention of video game enthusiasts. A few weeks after the reveal, the title being worked on by Ikumi Nakamura's studio has returned to show itself in an interesting development diary.
Although the images shown during the video do not allow us to get a precise idea of the game, between one scene and another we can discover numerous details about this promising title. In the final stages of the film we can also see some very short gameplay sequences, which underline this action 3D it's based a lot on the movement system and verticalitygiven that the various characters are equipped with unique abilities with which to move within what should be open maps.
As for the plot, players will take on the role of hunters Yokai, dangerous demons that will be searched for through a particular mechanic that allows the protagonists to open a window on the Yokai world. Moving on to the game structure, it would seem that Kemuri is a sort of Monster Huntergiven that alone or in the company of other players we will be able to hunt for demons, among which there will also be bosses, and then obtain new powers and aesthetic changes after eliminating them.
The developers also stated that among the main sources of inspiration from Kemuri there are Okami and the old games for PlayStation 1 and Dreamcast.
