These players have to pay a lot more for their subscription, and unfortunately, it will only get worse over time…
Paying a subscription to be able to access World of Warcraft (WoW) never enchants players. Subject to debate, some find the price justified while others are indignant that this MMO which is about to celebrate its twentieth anniversary does not offer more affordable alternatives. In any case, Blizzard’s juggernaut still enjoys great popularity, even two decades after its appearance.
However, some players can no longer afford to continue their journey in Azeroth due to a staggering increase in subscription prices. While a large part of the fans do not appreciate the subscription, they are very far from experiencing the current situation of the Argentines. The latter see the price increase by 3000%… Yes, you read correctly. How can World of Warcraft cost so much within one country? Inflation, but not only!
WoW subscription is 3000% more expensive for Argentinians
Very bad news for Argentinian WoW players: their subscription is now extremely expensive. Unfortunately, the economy in Argentina is currently not doing well at all. Inflation has reached new heights and MMORPG enthusiasts can no longer escape it. A few weeks ago, those concerned received an email from Blizzard to inform them of this price increase which goes from 650 to 12,000 in Argentine pesos. However, the North American company has announced a new policy which adds a bitter taste to this situation which is far from rosy. While they were the only company to accept Argentine pesos, they also decided to charge Argentine players in US dollars. A decision which therefore pushes players to pay more by converting their currency ($14.99 converts into 12,460 Argentine pesos, which is more expensive than the initial price) and also suffer a 60% tax.
In short, taking all this information into account, these unfortunate players see their subscription increase in price by 2,967%., according to our colleagues at PCGamer. Unsurprisingly, a large portion of players plan to leave the MMORPG following this price explosion. If they want to continue playing without suffering this absurdly expensive subscription, they will have to invest in purchasing Tokens with virtual gold coins. However, some are already moving towards private servers.
