Stunning seems to be the right word to describe the first teaser that Unseen Studios finally released for KEMURI at The Game Awards 2023 yesterday. Even though it is still shrouded in so much mystery, the concept of Yokai hunting in an urban Japanese setting with characters who have cool designs is indeed a basic concept that must be admitted, it is tempting. Moreover, standing behind the studio is Ikumi Nakamura, dev. Which had grown into a meme because of his cheerfulness while still working at Tango Gameworks. Now, Ikumi Nakamura has finally talked more about Kemuri.
Even though she hasn't shown any in-game details at this time, Ikumi Nakamura has finally revealed a little information regarding Unseen – Kemuri's first project. It is certain to be designed as a cooperative multiplayer online game in PvE format, where the world will merge the real world and Yokai in the same space. You have to use something called “Fox Window” to look for Yokai in the city and destroy them if the yokai is suspected to be the source of the problem. But it's not always about destroying, you can also recruit these yokai to strengthen yourself which will also change the appearance of your character design.
Kemuri will be designed as a cooperative multiplayer game.
Meanwhile, regarding level design, Kemuri said Nakamura will come up with a concept similar to a semi-open-world game but with vertical space design being more of a focus. You will still be given the opportunity to do a little exploration when experiencing multiplayer games, where there will be no clear clue as to where you should go.
Ikumi Nakamura and Unseen themselves admitted that the release of Kemuri itself would not happen in the near future considering that they had just entered an extensive playtest and development phase. What do you think? Sounds interesting?
