It had been hinted at in the rumor mill for a long time, now it's official: The next Nintendo Direct is imminent and will take place this week. Then it's about new top titles for the Nintendo Switch in 2024.
There has been speculation about a new Direct conference from Nintendo for weeks, especially after Sony held a State of Play and Microsoft held an Xbox Developer Direct to present their first top titles for the young year of 2024. Nintendo is now also following suit and will be demonstrating important games for the Nintendo Switch as part of the upcoming broadcast, which will appear primarily in the first half of 2024.
The direct conference was partly expected by insiders last week, but in the end it is now tomorrow, Wednesday, February 21, 2024, when it will be broadcast. Those interested can tune in at 3:00 p.m. German time to watch the stream, which is around 25 minutes long. You can take part via Nintenso YouTube and Twitch channels.
Nintendo points out that this is a so-called partner showcase. In this respect, the focus is not on first-party titles from Nintendo itself, but rather on those from third-party publishers and developers. The first-party games still confirmed for the Switch include Princess Peach Showtime!, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. The most hotly anticipated Switch title is probably Metroid Prime 4. It remains to be seen whether these games will make an appearance at Direct in any form.
A #NintendoDirect: Partner Showcase is coming! Watch on-demand via YouTube on 2/21 at 6am PT for around 25 mins of info focused on #NintendoSwitch games coming in the first half of 2024 from our publishing and development partners.

According to Nintendo insider Pyoro, Pokémon developer Game Freak will definitely also make an appearance at the showcase, so Pokémon fans may expect interesting news. Other speculation brings an idea of Private Division's 3D platformer Penny's Big Breakaway into play.
The fact that, in view of the ever-approaching Switch 2, the further first-party line-up for the previous Switch could possibly be rather poor was recently discussed in insider circles. Recently there have been numerous reports from different directions that the console successor from 2024 has slipped into the first quarter of 2025. Analysts therefore predicted that Nintendo would have a rather difficult year in 2024. We will find out tomorrow whether fans of the previous Switch can still look forward to some top titles.
