At the same time, content created in the editor on older consoles was removed.
For Grand Theft Auto 5 and GTA Online an update has been released, which cuts the Rockstar Editor from the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. On current platforms – PC and new consoles – the editor has not gone away.
The fact that the developers of Grand Theft Auto 5 are going to abandon support for the Rockstar Editor on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One became known back in January 2024. Rockstar Games explained that this was a necessary measure: by cutting out the editor, the developers would be able to continue supporting versions of GTA 5 and GTA Online for these platforms.
The Rockstar Editor allows players to shoot videos using the GTA 5 engine. With the help of this editor, both short clips and remakes of full-length films are created, the duration of which is comparable to the length of the originals.
Having abandoned support for Rockstar Editor on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the developers of Grand Theft Auto 5 have also removed content created by players using the editor on these platforms. Rockstar did not explain why the filmed content needed to be removed.
There are no plans to discontinue support for Rockstar Editor on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.
