Google Play Books finally got the Material You redesign after years of waiting. The application is one of the last Google natives to receive the new interface.
It received a new Material You-aligned interactive widget in 2022, but the rest of Play Books was stuck with the old version of the theme.
The redesign brings a pill-shaped search bar, although the account menu was updated a long time ago. Then there's the high bottom of the Material You with a pill-shaped tab indicator. The height corresponds to Google Home, Photos and even Tasks.
Google also updated the navigation rail, added last year, on Android tablets and foldables to Material 3 style.
In the Library tab, carousels have become rounded rectangles, while several independent buttons in the app go in the opposite direction. The Wishlist and Store tabs have been similarly modernized, although there are no changes to the Reading view or settings.
Its highlights continue to be the standard blue color with no dynamic color. A Google Play Books version 2024.2.9.0 is being made available on the Play Store.
Other pending Google app redesigns include Authenticator, Classroom and Play Games. Meanwhile, Google Search has its own design language and has even ditched the Material 3 bottom bar.
