The last few weeks have been interesting for the world of graphics cards, because we had new launches, which in turn forced some changes on the part of NVIDIA and AMD on older models. In other words, we had some successes.
However, if you thought the market was not very interesting, all these changes did not change that reality. Graphics cards remain expensive, in fact too expensive for what they are capable of offering.
Graphics Cards 2024: Prices rising or falling?
Therefore, the introduction of NVIDIA's new RTX 40 Super graphics cards has led to some price adjustments across all markets, and across multiple price ranges. However, nothing drastic.
The graphics cards that have shown the biggest price drops are the RTX 4070 Ti and Radeon RX 7900 XT. In addition to these, the RTX 4070 appears to continue below its recommended selling price, with the RTX 4090 finally dropping to more “normal” values.
However, if we want something more mid-range, the prices have hardly changed at all. You will still have to spend around €400 to have a decent card, but it is not much better than previous generation models. (Which is exactly why it still makes sense to look for models from the previous generation – RX 6000 and RTX 30).
This is something that will probably never change, at least until the next generation of graphics cards are released. In fact, it is very likely that things will get a little worse, as NVIDIA will be alone in the highest segment of the market, with AMD more focused on the mid-range.
In short, things have changed, and graphics cards have become more expensive forever. It is what it is. It's going to take a miracle, like… I don't know… A really competitive Intel, for things to go back a little to the way they used to be. (But… If you are paying attention to the rumors, this is not expected to happen).
