As part of the presentation of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, there were a few interviews and of course our colleagues didn't miss the opportunity to ask about one of the fans' biggest requests.
A potential remake of Bloodborne has been the stuff of myths and legends for months and is very high on fans' wish lists – colleague Dennis always gets all fuzzy when the topic comes up. Of course, during the interviews about the Elden Ring expansion, this question was also asked of Hidetaka Miyazaki, the boss of From Software. And our colleagues at Eurogamer even had something like answers.
The result is a skillful avoidance of a clear answer by addressing the fans' love for the game and generally chatting about remakes/remasters: “Quite simply: it makes me very happy to see that it is a title with many special memories, both for me as well as for the employees who worked on it. And when we see these passionate voices in the community, we are of course excited and happy that we have these memories.”
Interestingly, Miyazaki refers to the remake of Demon's Souls, which skipped a generation (from PS3 to PS5) and was only released eleven years after the original was released.
Miyazaki commented: “I think the new hardware is definitely part of the value of these remakes. Things that weren't possible on previous generations of hardware, like rendering certain expressions – [neue Hardware] sometimes makes it possible. However, I wouldn't say that's the be-all and end-all. I think modern hardware allows more players to enjoy the games. So ultimately it's a simple reason, but as a fellow player I think accessibility is important. I think that can be the driving force to bring an old game to a new platform.”
All in all, there is no binding statement about a possible remake or remaster of Bloodborne, which was released for PS4 in 2015. From software you can't look into the cards. In any case, it remains to be seen what the studio has next in the pipeline. Armored Core 6 is out, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is coming in June, and then what?
