In the context of yesterday's presentation of Shadow of the Erdtree, the upcoming expansion for Elden Ring, Hidetaka Miyazaki provided further information in a few interviews, for example about the game world and its scope.
Hidetaka Miyazaki from From Software was apparently in a chatting mood. Since the release of the trailer and release date of Elden Ring; Shadow of the Erdtree he went into further details with some colleagues in interviews.
Among other things, he makes it clear that the Shadowland, the new game environment, is physically separated from the game world of the main game. “It's a brand new map, separate from the intermediate lands,” he says. “And it's set on a completely separate, physically separate map. So getting there requires some kind of warp.” Why the Shadow Land is so detached is part of the story and will not be revealed for the time being.
As far as the size of the new map is concerned, the Shadow Land is comparable to Limgrave, if not larger. Compared to Elden Ring, we can expect similarly structured exploration in the Land of Shadow, with a mix of “open areas, large-scale Legacy dungeons, and also small to medium-sized Legacies,” Miyazaki told IGN.
The entrance to the DLC is in the blood-soaked boss arena of Mohg, more specifically at the cocoon in the back. You need to go to Mohgwyn Palace to start Shadow of the Earthtree.
When it comes to the level of difficulty, From Software wants to stay true to itself with the expansion. “And here too, our hardcore players will find optional bosses that, like Malenia, which you probably know from the base game, are not crucial,” Miyazaki concluded on this topic. There will be a total of ten new boss fights.
Regarding the question of whether there will be another DLC or whether a sequel is already being planned, there was no clear announcement, but at least a glimmer of hope: “We currently have no plans for a second DLC or a sequel, but we want this possibility “We definitely can't rule it out. We think there could definitely be something in the future.”
So enjoy Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree when it launches on June 21st.
