Of the multiple existing graphics engines, a large majority of the projects in the industry are nourished by Unity y Unreal Engine. They are the most popular among developers, but that is not the case with Arrowhead Game Studios, creators of Helldivers 2 and its wonderful physics that create really fun clips.
And the space shooter uses Autodesk Stingray, the same technology that gave life to the first title in the saga in 2015, although it was previously known as Bitsquid. The truth is that many video games were nourished by this tool that was created only by two Swedish engineers, who sold the property to Autodesk in 2014.
It was then that the company integrated the engine into its game development kit, along with others such as Maya and 3ds Max. Escape Dead Island and Warhammer: Vermintide 2 are two examples of works created from Autodesk Stingray, although the particularity of using it is that it has been discontinued since 2018. This means that the developer worked for the next six years without support in the form of updates and even the creators themselves have described it as obsolete.
“Our crazy engineers had to do everything, without any support, to build the game on par with other engines. And yes. The project started before discontinuation,” reveals Helldivers 2 CEO Johan Pilestedt. This particularity only increase the merit of the success of the titlesince those responsible have had to shape a work without the full support that other projects do have.
