True Detective will return with a fifth season that will once again feature Issa López as showrunner after the success of Noche Polar on HBO, the most watched of the series.
True Detective It was, for some fans, a “one hit wonder”: the first season released in 2014 delighted, and the following seasons disappointed many fans, who preferred that the anthology of Nic Pizzolatto.
But True Detective: Night Country (True Detective: Polar Night in Spanish), starring Jodie Foster and Kali Reis, has been a huge success, and has become the most watched season of the series.
Thanks to that, the renewal was a no-brainer, and today HBO announced that True Detective has been renewed for a fifth season. And most importantly, you will once again have Issa Lopez como showrunner.
As we read in The Hollywood Reporter, HBO and Warner Bros. Discovery have signed a fifth season with López, which will be the second written by López.

Issa López, new showrunner of True Detective who will return for the fifth season
Nic Pizzolatto, creator of the series, left it in the third season and signed an agreement with Disney (although he later abandoned it). HBO owns the rights to True Detective, and hired Issa LopezMexican director, which has turned out to be a success.
In fact, Pizzolatto, although he appears as executive producer, has dedicated himself to criticizing this new season, to the point of creating a space to “troll, support or fight” that has been highly criticized by fans.
“From its conception to its release, Night Country has been the most beautiful collaboration and adventure of my entire creative life,” López said in a statement after the renewal of True Detective. “HBO trusted my vision throughout, and the idea of bringing a new incarnation of True Detective to life with Casey Bloys, Francesca and the entire team is a dream come true. “I'm looking forward to coming back.”
