New graphics, but the same essence. Not bad.
As part of the New Year, New Age presentation, Microsoft, together with World's Edge and Forgotten Empires, made it clear when the Age of Mythology: Retold strategy should be released. The authors themselves call the project “an evolution of a favorite strategy, which was made possible thanks to modern graphics and a fresh approach to a familiar genre.” It’s nice that the authors of the Age of Empires series are working on creating a remake of Retold.
The developers also assured that this game will be a “pleasant discovery” for those who are new to the series and for its loyal fans. Here you need to defend your possessions, lead legendary monsters into battle and call on the gods to help crush all enemies.
Age of Mythology: Retold will offer a story campaign of 50 missions, during which players will have the opportunity to plunge into a wondrous world full of myths and legends come to life. The game will provide the opportunity to besiege the unshakable walls of Troy, fight giants on the endless icy wastelands of Midgard and uncover the secrets of Osiris hidden under the shifting sands of Egypt.
Single-player gameplay can be diluted with network battles in the 1 on 1 format and in 12-person mode. The strategy even includes a place for the so-called “Arena of the Gods,” which can also be played alone or online.
“Choose a patron from the Greek, Scandinavian, Egyptian or Atlantean pantheons. Crush your enemies by summoning thunderstorms, earthquakes and Nidhogg himself – the dragon whose name everyone has heard. Or help your people develop and prosper by calling on the dryads and praying to the sky for life-giving moisture. Lead centaurs, trolls, mummies, sun-eating crocodiles, and even mighty one-eyed cyclops into battle. Stand at the head of a mighty army, assembled from legendary creatures from all over the world,” reads the official description of the project on Steam.
Age of Mythology: Retold is scheduled to release in 2024 on PC and Xbox Series X|S. The project will also be available on the Game Pass subscription service on the day of release. You can study other details and screenshots on the official page on Steam.
