A cross-platform mod support plan is being worked on for Baldur's Gate.
Larian Studios has spoken openly about plans to support mods for Baldur's Gate 3.
As Head of Publishing Michael Douse says in a series of tweets, cross-platform support for the role-playing game is already in the works. It will be released later this year, supporting the modding community.
Douse said: “We don't normally talk about things before they're done, but as you may have read, we're making an exception. We've been working on a robust, cross-platform mod support plan to be released later this year. We love our modding community and we want to support it. It will come.”
“We have a system, but it still needs testing and still needs work. We are excited about it. I understand that it sucks when the game updates and mods break. Our community teams will begin talking to and engaging the modding community. At the moment the work continues.”
The developer later fleshed out his support plans via Discord. It includes, among other things, support for classes, UI, customization, spells and assets.
“We are working on official mod support and have been for a while. We want the best for you, which includes creating a pipeline that allows mod authors to publish their mods on different platforms. Together with the platform owners, we are working to make this a reality and forming a team to support mod curation. Our goal is to provide modding support for things like classes, UI, customization, spells, and specific assets and game mechanics. Since this is no small task, we hope to introduce the first levels of modding support in our next major patch, which is still a few months away. As frustrated as you may be right now, we're very interested in working with you – and we plan to reach out to popular mod authors to have further conversations and work together to avoid problems in the future. “
