Which: Sony Pictures
February 23, 2024 at 7:00 a.m. – Produced by Sony, flopped twice in the cinema and suddenly very successful on Netflix. The Marvel film has had an eventful past and now wants to convince the critics on Disney Plus.
Great things often emerge from collaborations between different parties. Sometimes the results are rather semi-good. The movie Morbius, which resulted from a collaboration between Sony and Disney, almost certainly falls into the latter category.
Although Morbius (buy now for €12.99) comes from the Marvel comics, the rights to the character lie with Sony – similar to Spider-Man or Venom. Already released in cinemas in 2022, Morbius was unable to build on the success of Sony's Spiderverse and became one the first truly disastrous flops for Disney and the Marvel heroes – despite a very low budget. Fun Fact: When Morbius was released in theaters again two months later, it flopped a second time.
Nevertheless, there could be some potential in Morbius. Disney is therefore anxious to quickly bring the film to its own streaming platform.

Morbius – now soon on Disney Plus after Netflix
Like all Sony films, Morbius was only released exclusively on Netflix. As of January 2nd, Netflix subscribers can stream Morbius at no extra cost. But that will soon no longer be the case. The film will leave the Netflix platform again on February 28th and move.
From March 1st, Morbius will be part of all other Marvel films on Disney Plus. This meant that Morbius was only on Netflix for two months. But why is Disney bringing the film into its own boat so quickly?
This could be due to its success on Netflix. Shortly after its release, Morbius shot up to number 1 in the streaming charts, even pushing blockbusters like Rebel Moon down to the following places. Many viewers probably wanted to see for themselves whether the film was a legitimate flop. But with the start of streaming you could read more and more positive opinions about the film.
Disney apparently wants to take the momentum with them and is putting the film into their own program much earlier than expected. We're excited to see whether Morbius will be successful there too and whether we'll be talking differently about one of Marvel's most disastrous flops in a few years.
