Unofficial mods have undoubtedly been a big part of Minecraft's success. Such unrestricted mods from the community were previously reserved for the Java-based PC version of the game. The cross-platform version Minecraft Bedrock had to go to hell. Now this version offers new “add-ons” via the in-game marketplace, which includes both free and paid mods.
New add-ons for Minecraft Bedrock: Freely combinable mods that are not tied to worlds
Some fans will now want to point out that there have been community-created “add-ons” for Minecraft Bedrock before. However, these mods were tied to a world that was then created for the mod in question. The new use of the term “add-on” is now used for the new type of mods that are not tied to worlds and can be added, combined or removed from existing worlds at will. Admittedly, Microsoft is taking a somewhat confusing approach to naming.
“Add-ons allow you to add new blocks, mobs, items, recipes and other content to both your existing worlds and new ones,” says the official Mojang announcement. These new add-ons are more similar to the classic Minecraft Java mods that have been known for several years. The launch catalog of add-ons includes things like craftable furniture, pets, and computers. There is also a gravestone add-on that bundles all inventory items into a lootable gravestone when you die instead of scattering everything on the ground. These and similar add-ons will be given away when Mojang launches.

Minecraft Bedrock: Free and purchasable mods available
Other add-ons, however, must be purchased with Minecoins, i.e. the premium currency for the Minecraft Marketplace. “You don't need to be tech-savvy to install it – you simply download the content from the Minecraft Marketplace,” said Mojang. “We also want to emphasize that players will still be able to install non-Marketplace mods. We have no plans to remove the ability to load mods from popular third-party websites or mobile apps that comply with the Minecraft License Agreement (EULA ) are compliant,” Mojang further adds.
