Semtech has announced the AirLink XR60 router, designed for use in critical infrastructure, smart cities, manufacturing, video surveillance, public safety, fleet management and more.
The developer calls the new product the world's most compact ruggedized router with 5G support. The device has dimensions of 118 × 39 × 98 mm and a weight of 522 g. The solution is made in accordance with MIL-STD-810H and IP64 standards, which means protection from moisture, dust, vibration and shock. Operating temperature range – from -40 to +70 °C.
The router carries on board a processor with four Arm Cortex-A53 cores. The amount of available RAM is 1.2 GB, flash memory is 1.7 GB. Options are available with one 1GbE RJ-45 port (serial + Ethernet), as well as 1GbE RJ-45 and 5GbE RJ-45 ports. Optionally, a Wi-Fi 6 controller (2×2 MIMO; 2.4 and 5 GHz) class AX1200 can be added.
The equipment includes the Sierra Wireless EM9291 5G NR Sub-6 M.2 cellular module. Let us recall that Semtech bought the Canadian supplier of wireless communications equipment Sierra Wireless in 2022 for $1.2 billion. When working on a 5G network, the theoretical download speed of data reaches 2800 Mbit/s, the transmission speed towards the base station is 300 Mbit/s. It is possible to install two SIM cards (Nano-4FF). At the back of the router there are SMA connectors for connecting antennas.
The router supports GNSS satellite navigation. IPSec VPN (TCP) performance reaches 175 Mbps, and firewall performance up to 800 Mbps. Among other things, a USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C port and a GPIO header are mentioned. Power can be supplied via a 4-pin connector (7–36 V DC) or a USB Type-C connector (45 W). The AirLink OS platform is used.
