The second phase of the Season of Discovery of World of Warcraft has left us so far with such striking anecdotes as the appearance of the rarest mount in the history of the game or an object for players to take a nap, but one of the most important changes that has carried out has been to prohibit the practice of the GDKP system.
A huge part of the community was very in favor of it and thanked Blizzard for making such a decision. Now, after more than two weeks that the measure has been active, some developers on the team have wanted to comment on How has this affected the MMORPG environment?. That has led the Dexerto portal to speak with Josh Greenfield and Nora Valetta, senior producer and software engineer, respectively, of the Season of Discovery.
One of the reasons why it was decided to prohibit this practice was to avoid the constant appearance of messages announcing the sale of gold or people trying to find others to use the GDKP system. As a result of this, according to Valetta, The data they are obtaining in this regard is very positive.:
It's probably too early to tell, but I think my initial gut reaction to playing a lot on multiple servers is that yes, I've noticed a lot less ads and things like that. It's given us the opportunity to crack down on things a little more easily. Not only the sale, but also the purchase of gold.
This entire system was being used to make players pocket huge amounts of money by going to dungeons, to the point that the company considered that it was used for the purpose of launder money:
GDKP is a great way to launder money and a great way to hide the movement of illicit gold. Without that kind of shield, we find it much easier to clean up other things and be a little more assertive in other aspects of the economy.
Even so, not the entire community has reacted in the same way, given that there have been a party that has not been convinced at all by this whole situationbut the team is convinced that it was just the initial reaction and now everyone accepts it.
I think it's safe to say it's too early to come to a conclusion. So far, it seems to have been a very positive change. I will say that this is totally anecdotal and not supported by any of our data as of yet. We've been browsing Discord channels and exploring community Reddit posts, social media, and official forums.
There was initially a lot of uproar in the community over the decision when it initially went into effect. At this point, I don't really see it being that hot of a topic. It's almost as if people said, “okay, GDKPs don't exist anymore in the Season of Discovery. I guess that's life.” Then things moved on. We're not seeing much uproar from people who were upset about this.
So far, the ban of the GDKP system has only been carried out in the Season of Discovery and it does not seem that Blizzard will follow the same example in the rest of the versions.
