Since the beginning of this year, many major game studios, publishers and companies have announced large-scale layoffs. In January, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer announced that 1,900 employees of the American corporation's gaming division would lose their jobs. Today it became known about large-scale cuts in the gaming division of Sony.
Sony officially announced on its website that it is cutting about 8% of the total Playstation workforce. About 900 people will be laid off. The announcement notes that specialists around the world are being laid off: North and South America, EMEA, Japan and the Asia-Pacific region.
In addition to the cuts, Playstation decided to close the London studio. According to the announcement, the London PlayStation Studios team will be completely closed. This is a team that has been involved in the development of virtual reality games in recent years. Another Playstation team that suffered greatly from layoffs is the Firesprite studio (currently working on a certain AAA horror game).
In a corporate letter about layoffs in the Playstation division, Jim Ryan informed employees. Recall that in March he will leave Sony's gaming division.
