Apple could also equip standard iPhone 17s with an Oled screen with a faster refresh rate. These high-end smartphones could therefore benefit from certain features reserved for iPhone Pros such as ProMotion and Always-On Display. These flagships are expected for 2025.
According to the South Korean media The Elec, Apple would adopt LTPO type Oled screens for its entire iPhone 17 range. The Chinese screen manufacturer BOE would provide this made Apple LTPO screens for standard iPhone 17s.
The same source added that if BOE failed to supply Apple with the required volume of components, Samsung and LG would fill the gap, as these two manufacturers also supply screens to Apple.

The LTPO type Oled screen is the same as that used on the iPhone 15 Pro (test), the iPhone 15 Pro Max (test) and the previous Pro models. This allows for a higher refresh rate, typically 120Hz, as well as dynamic levels to enable features like ProMotion and Always-On mode, which that many mid-range Android smartphones have offered for years.
While Apple has stubbornly refused to improve the screens of the standard iPhone over the past few years, the manufacturer would finally reduce this gap between its two ranges.
During the last quarter, the Apple brand did not achieve its sales target in China. This is explained by the fact that the iPhone 15 does not offer attractive updates and that it lacks functions such as artificial intelligence, already offered by the competition, notably by the Samsung Galaxy S24 (test).
To differentiate the standard iPhone 17 models from the Pro models, Apple could equip the latter with a FaceID instead of the Dynamic Island.
For now, the iPhone 16 is expected to be a minor update to the iPhone 15. The duo is expected to receive the same screen sizes, the only notable notable changes would be a faster A18 SoC, a button Action and a new “Capture” button, as well as a new design of the photo module.
What do you think about Apple using the same type of screen across the entire iPhone 17 lineup? What features would you like Apple to add to standard iPhones?
