A few weeks ago, we reported that ASUS had announced its new ZenBook Duo laptop, which of course, being “new”, takes the famous design of two screens in a single laptop that has caused so much talk over the years, and elevates it on a slightly different level.
What level is this?
Well, in this new 'Duo', we have what may be an exaggerated simplification of the situation, but which quite honestly seems to be a fusion between the design ZenBook Duo that we have seen in recent years – something that in turn consisted of the implementation of a “half” screen just above the keyboard to increase productivity – with the foldable laptop ZenBook Foldwhich as the name suggests, is based on a large foldable OLED screen to offer other usability capabilities.
Does it seem strange? Well, according to what we had the opportunity to see today with ASUS Portugal, it is a design with a lot of potential for different types of users. In fact, it is a laptop that works for everything and everyone.
ASUS has (again) the most different laptop on the market
So… What is this? It's very simple, it's a laptop that when closed looks like many others, but when opened, it has a second screen hidden under the keyboard. Yes, a second screen, with the same exact technical specifications as the primary screen. They are both 14-inch OLED screens, with 3K resolution, and of course, the ability to reach 120Hz.
This means that in a completely normal laptop format, we have a machine with 2 large monitors, with a lot of customization in the mix, whether for playing, working, or leisure.
We had the opportunity to see some extremely interesting use cases, and in fact, this is one of the first times in many years of analyzing laptops that I actually want to test a machine.
How much does it cost? What's it worth?
Basically, despite being a very interesting concept, this new generation ZenBook Duo is not at all a big deal. In other words, none of the technologies we have at our disposal here constitute anything new. It's a high-end laptop from ASUS, with the best components the industry has to offer, with an OLED screen like the main one in the place where you would normally find a keyboard.
The keyboard becomes a Bluetooth device, which can be used on top of the laptop itself with the help of magnets, or can be used remotely. In fact, the keyboard can even be used on other electronic devices, like any other Bluetooth keyboard. (We also have a smart pen in the mix, included in the package).
Basically, it's a simple idea, which was just difficult to implement!
What we have here again is the way ASUS allows you to “open” the laptop. It can be in a traditional way, it can be in a vertical way, in the form of a book. It's whatever you want and understand.
It's a completely normal laptop that opens, stretches, and adapts to any type of situation.
How much does all this cost? Well, with a Core i9 Ultra, 32GB of RAM and an SSD with 2TB of internal storage, we're looking at a €2499 machine. This means a price of approximately €500 above what a traditional machine with similar specifications could cost in a store.
Which raises a question… Do you want to pay €500 more to have a laptop that’s different from everything else? Share your opinion with us in the comments box below.
