This week, the developers of Colossal Order, represented by CEO Mariina Hallikainen, were confronted with somewhat more drastic questions from the community. An important aspect in Cities: Skylines was and still is the modding support, which is still waiting for part two. Now the players want to know what was the reason for the lack of support for the release in October 2023.
The woes of the developers of Cities: Skylines 2
According to Mariina Hallikainen, Colossal Order regrets this most because the developers wanted to have modding support implemented for the release. However, technical difficulties are said to have complicated the plan and catapulted the efforts backwards. The optimization of performance came to the fore, which players clearly felt at the release. However, the developer is determined to announce news about the modding status soon.
Another question hits Colossal Order hard and relates to how and whether the developers can turn things around for Cities: Skylines 2. Mariina Hallikainen can only confirm that her team is working to implement modding support, Ultimate Edition content, expansion to consoles and other game improvements for Cities: Skylines 2 this year.

The timing of the publication of updates was also discussed. Colossal Order has deviated from weekly patches due to the enormous volume, as it takes more time than a few days and hours to adequately address problems in Cities: Skylines 2, especially since Colossal Order only has 30 people on the development team. “So instead of spending a large part of the week working on build deliveries and quality assurance rounds, we can use this time to work on the fixes themselves,” explains Mariina Hallikainen. The DLCs already have a rough schedule for the Ultimate Edition, so it makes sense to patch the game at the same time. The goal should be to improve the game as quickly as possible. Once a solid patch is ready and tested, it will be released.
