In a recent announcement, Remedy pointed out that the studio acquired the full trademark rights to “Control” for a price of 17 million euros. The successor, announced at the end of 2022, will therefore be realized and published without an external partner.
In the development and distribution of “Control”, Remedy is still working with publisher 505 Games. As the Finnish studio announced today, those responsible would like to take a different approach with the successor.
With a payment of 17 million euros, Remedy acquired the complete trademark rights to “Control” from 505 Games. According to today's announcement, 505 Games will continue to distribute the original Control until December 31, 2024. After this period has expired, the publisher will no longer generate license fees from copies of “Control” sold.
505 Games will no longer be involved in the development and publication of “Control 2” due to the sale of the trademark rights to Remedy.
The Finnish studio will develop, promote and distribute the successor on its own initiative.
Remedy refers to greater freedom of choice

“We will weigh our options carefully as we know that Control is viewed by many partners as an attractive franchise,” added Virtala, promising that “Control 2” will be released in the first half of the year will move on to the next phase of development.
Accordingly, further details about the successor could be expected in the next few months.
Remedy's CEO concluded: “As we part ways amicably, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the 505 Games team for our years of partnership. Also for helping to establish Control as a gaming franchise with a lot of future potential.”
