Epic Games has undergone a hacker attack: Apparently a group of people hacked into the company's servers and stole almost 200 GB of data for ransom purposes. The information includes emails, names, payment systems, source codes and more.
The action was led by a team ransomware called Mogilevich, who published a post to announce the terms of the operation, its success and declare that all the stolen data is now for sale.
If Epic Games wants to recover them, it will have to do so by March 4: this is the deadline established by the group, which however has not clarified what the amount of the ransom is or what will happen if the company does not agree to pay.
This is a situation very similar to what occurred last December, when Insomniac Games was hacked, also in that case with a ransom demand that Sony did not want to pay, resulting in the dissemination of the stolen information.
Fortnite in the crosshairs?
Fortnite Festival
There is no doubt that Epic Games' most important asset is Fortnite, ed it is therefore precisely the famous battle royale that risks the most compared to what happened, but the publisher actually has various issues at stake and agreements with various parties.
We know, for example, that it will produce the new Playdead game, and that it had a central role in the development of Alan Wake 2, while the battle waged so far with Apple is well known, which is also a sensitive issue.
