The Android version of WhatsApp is finally receiving a feature that is already found in other versions of the application. This feature should make it much easier to find specific conversations on WhatsApp.
Now it's easier to find specific conversations on WhatsApp!
On his WhatsApp channel, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that WhatsApp on Android has received a “search by date” function. With this feature, Android users will be able to find a specific conversation by choosing a date instead of relying on a date range. Zuckerberg demonstrated this by finding a karaoke video of a previous conversation.
If you want to search for a conversation from a specific date, you'll need to tap the contact or group conversation to enter the details. From there, you will need to tap the search button, located just below the contact or group name. When you see the calendar icon, you can tap it to open a calendar and select the date you're looking for.
According to WaBetaInfo, the latest beta version (2.24.5.17) of the Google Play Beta program also introduced a way to share the QR code from the conversation tab. This feature should help make it easier to search and connect with others.
However, there is one more interesting novelty.
Beta version 2.24.5.6 of WhatsApp includes a new option in storage settings that allows you to change the default quality of uploading multimedia content, as discovered by WABetaInfo. Currently, navigating to Settings > Storage & Data on WhatsApp for Android has a few options such as Manage Storage, a network usage indicator, an option to use less data for calls, and proxy settings. Next is a section on automatic downloading of multimedia content.
But this new beta update contains another dedicated section below. It's called Media Quality and it allows users to change the content loading quality for each new image. By default, quality is set to default, which has the advantage of saving storage space. However, if storage is not a concern and you want to send all photos and videos in HD quality, this option will save you the trouble of tapping the HD icon each time on the media editor screen. As you would expect, WhatsApp will revert to the option you chose in the Storage and data settings. Even if the quality was manually changed to a previous image/video.
