Finnish studio Remedy is currently working on two games in the Control franchise, which was previously officially announced – this is a multiplayer project and a full-fledged sequel. Both games are still at a fairly early stage of development, and at the moment there is no information about when they will be released. But, as it became known, Remedy is now the sole owner of the rights to the series.
The Remedy studio announced on its official website that it bought all rights to Control from 505 Games (publisher of the first game in the series) for 17 million euros. According to the studio's statement:
The rights to the announced two games, as well as future projects in the franchise, will belong to Remedy. All rights were acquired, including marketing and distribution of the first part. The first game in the series is distributed by the publishing house 505 Games until December 31, 2024, and after Remedy itself will serve as the publisher of the project. A statement about the deal states that it “will allow for more favorable terms for current and future Control games.” At the moment, the studio does not specify whether it plans to independently publish future games in the franchise. In total, the first Control sold over 4 million copies.
Note that Remedy previously called Alan Wake and Control their key franchises, which they plan to actively develop.
