Thirty years after the release of the original – which cost the life of Brandon Lee, who died in an accident on the set that has never been fully clarified – Il Corvo is ready to return to theaters. What is about to arrive in the room, however, it is not a sequel but a reboot of the original starring Bill Skarsgård (Pennywise in the latest adaptation of IT) as Eric Draven. The film is expected in theaters on June 7, 2024.
The Crow: Bill Skarsgård replaces Brandon Lee in the Reboot
Brandon Lee as Eric Draven in The Crow (1994)
After the first film in 1994, three sequels arrived. Of these, only the first (dated 1996) maintained a sort of continuity with the original. The next two (2000 and 2005) were not related to the previous ones or to each other. All, however, drew inspiration from James O'Barr's original comic and presented some variation on the theme.
The one expected at the cinema this summer was instead presented as a real remake (even if we could call it a reboot). Skarsgård plays Draven while FKA Twigs will play the role of Shelly Webster. For longtime fans of the '94 film, it seems the idea is to keep the original plot intact. At least, this is what Vanity Fair reports, which also published the shots you find below.
The direction was entrusted to Rupert Sanders, already known for directing Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) and Ghost in the Shell (2017). The announcement of the film and part of the cast dates back to April 2022.
The producers of the reboot of The Crow will be Victor Hadida (Resident Evil), Molly Hassell (Terminal) e John Jencks. The trio said they were particularly enthusiastic about being able to work on the project, thanks also to the freedom of being able to re-propose the story but adapt it to today's audience. “The original film left an indelible mark on our culture. And we are thrilled to be able to bring a new adaptation to today's audiences who respect its legacy. Rupert has managed to explore new dimensions and create a contemporary universe for this timeless saga of never-ending love, and we can't wait to share this with viewers.”
