They are required not only by the RF Armed Forces, but also “are good for export.”
The Russian special military operation in Ukraine made it clear that in the framework of a modern high-intensity armed conflict between approximately technically equal armies (we will not mention now how the Armed Forces of Ukraine ensure a technical level equal to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, mountains of texts have already been written about this and everything is clear to everyone ) the one with more opportunities wins. The RF Armed Forces have orders of magnitude more of these capabilities, but, of course, they can be increased and diversified.
In particular, through the resumption of production of the A-50 long-range radar detection aircraft (AWACS). The head of the Rostec state corporation, Sergei Chemezov, said today in a commentary to TASS that Russia intends to restore the production of this equipment. According to him, this aircraft is needed by the troops, not only in Russia, but also in export markets.
It is necessary to understand that we are talking about a modernized version of this AWACS aircraft – A-50U.
Long-range radar detection aircraft not only carry out detection, but also accompany air, ground and sea targets, allowing the armed forces to quickly respond to the situation in the combat zone. According to unconfirmed information, since the beginning of the year, the Russian Aerospace Forces have lost two A-50 aircraft in the NVO zone. However, not a single real proof of these statements was provided, and there are no indirect signs either, so with a probability close to absolute, we are dealing with an ordinary “misconception.” There are few such aircraft in service in Russia, so their losses, if they were/will be, are extremely painful and significant. In this regard, it is especially important to establish full-fledged production of these aircraft from scratch. Fortunately, there are all possibilities for this.
