Nextorage has released two NVMe PCIe 4.0 G-series drives with a capacity of 8 TB each. The NE1N8TB and NEM-PA8TB models are distinguished by the presence of an aluminum cooling radiator. Both drives can be used in both PCs and PlayStation 5 game consoles.
Before using the Nextorage NEM-PA8TB drive as part of a PC, users must make sure that there is free space for its installation, since the new product does not imply the removal of the standard cooling radiator.
The presented SSDs are based on an eight-channel controller with support for 3D NAND TLC memory chips with a data transfer rate of 1200 MT/s. The company did not specify which controller is used in the new products, but it is likely Phison E18. The choice would be quite obvious given that Nextorage was previously a joint venture between Sony and its division Sony Storage Media Solutions Corporation (SMSS), as well as Phison, until the latter bought all Nextorage assets from Sony in 2022.
Since both the NE1N8TB and NEM-PA8TB use the same components, both SSDs provide the same level of performance. They claim to have 2 GB of DDR4 cache memory. Sequential read and write speeds are 7300 and 6600 MB/s. In random read and write operations, it is stated at the level of 900 thousand IOPS and 1 million IOPS, respectively. The manufacturer provides a five-year warranty for the new products and claims a resource of 10,000 TBW (terabytes of overwritten information) for both drives.
The Nextorage NEM-PA8TB model with a cooling radiator has already appeared on sale in the American Amazon with a price tag of $849.99. A version without a radiator is not yet available in the US. In Japan, the NEM-PA8TB model is offered at 2,000 yen (about $13.34) more expensive than the NE1N8TB version (without heatsink). Thus, the cost of the NE1N8TB could be around $837.
