While showing off the Galaxy Ring earlier this week, Samsung confirmed some details about the upcoming health tracking system. Including which devices it will support, battery sizes, and more.
Samsung Galaxy Ring: more details are now known!
In an interview with CNET, we learned some additional information about the Samsung Galaxy Ring. They contain an interesting detail about battery life. So the smaller sizes of the Galaxy Watch will have a mere 14.5 mAh battery. The larger models will go up to 21.5 mAh. In a separate interview, Samsung mentioned a battery life of between five and nine days. As for weight, the smallest size apparently measures 2.3 g, while the largest is 2.9 g. In a quick comparison, the Oura Ring weighs 4-6g depending on the size.
Perhaps more interesting, however, are some details about Galaxy Ring compatibility.
Samsung explains that the Galaxy Ring can be used side by side with a Galaxy Watch, and the two can transfer metrics depending on what they do best, or even combine their data to get even better results, which seems to be very useful. And since a smartwatch still has a lot more utility compared to a smart ring, it's nice that you don't have to give up one for the other.
When it comes to the phone it will be paired with, however, it appears your options may be limited.
Galaxy smartphones are, of course, supported, and Samsung is “working to ensure” that non-Galaxy Android smartphone users can use the Galaxy Ring.
However, it appears there will be no such option for iPhone owners. Samsung's Hon Pak said the company hopes Ring will be enough to get people to switch, saying “we hope our devices will be of such a caliber that people will be willing to switch.”
