The grandiose combat coupled with the beautifully designed world and the rather dark story helped Nier: Automata achieve massive success that continues even years after its original release.
Nier: Automata hits new sales milestone
Recently, Nier: Automata (buy now) celebrated the seventh anniversary of its Japanese release and to mark the occasion, Platinum Games announced that the title had reached a new sales milestone. The game has now sold an impressive eight million copies worldwide, which is definitely an impressive success for this rather obscure series.

But Nier: Automata is far from over, as there is currently an orchestral tour of the game and there is also an anime adaptation. We will probably be able to look forward to a few more Nier: Automata-related projects in the future. With a bit of luck, we'll even get news about the game's most anticipated sequel soon, even if it's not Nier 3.
