It wasn't that long ago that rumors about a Star Wars shooter based on “The Mandalorian” from Respawn Entertainment were doing the rounds. However, this title will not reach us, because it is now clear: the work has been stopped.
Publisher Electronic Arts has applied the red pencil on a large scale and in the process also canceled a very promising Star Wars project from developer Respawn Entertainment. The makers of Titanfall and Apex Legends were rumored to be working on a first-person shooter based on Star Wars: The Mandalorian – but this will no longer be released.
EA has also recently undertaken major restructuring measures and laid off numerous employees. These measures also stipulated that the development of games based on licensed IP rights would be reduced. As part of this step, the first-person game based on the successful series “The Mandalorian” on Disney+ was canceled again.
EA had already intensified its efforts to leave licensed brands more and more behind. Among other things, the idea for a Star Wars: Battlefront 3 was shelved. There were similar proposals in 2020 and 2021, but according to a source from Insider Gaming, the action sequel did not receive the green light due to the license fees due. Even the in-house big football series can now do without FIFA and is now published independently as EA Sports FC.
In Respawn Entertainment's Mandalorian game, you would have taken on the role of a Mandalorian bounty hunter who travels across the galaxy in pursuit of various targets. The gameplay is said to have been designed for fast action and would have particularly rewarded you for your style. For example, health points would have been regenerated more quickly if you had achieved consecutive kills.
Rumors about this Star Wars game had only been confirmed a few weeks ago, but unfortunately the Mandalorian game is now a thing of the past. Regardless of this, the continuation of the Star Wars Jedi series at Electronic Arts should still be a done deal.
