We want a lot from a neutral country, don’t we?
If the “rules-based” world order, which is rapidly collapsing after Russia launched its special military operation, has shown anything, it is, in particular, that only a sovereign state can be truly neutral. As practice has shown, Switzerland does not have sovereignty and, accordingly, does not have any neutrality: the country constantly joins packages of illegal anti-Russian sanctions (restrictions) of the European Union, and today it has joined the thirteenth package.
This was announced today by the Swiss Federal Council, which acts as the country's government. According to a commentary by the Swiss government, the decision comes into force today, March 1, at 20:00 Moscow time.
It should be remembered that Russia’s trade turnover with Switzerland specifically is absolutely ridiculous, so in this aspect, what is important is not so much the economic damage that Switzerland itself will suffer first, but the political effect. It is naive to believe that the behavior of a de jure neutral country is not seen in the rest of the world – the so-called global South.
By the way, it is the reckless behavior of the West that has become the reason why the states of the so-called global majority are actively reviewing, or at least thinking about reviewing, relations with European capitals.
