From a case of a company that was seen as “extraordinary” because of the fantastic capital strength that allowed them to continue to be able to afford studios, even those present on a large scale, to a sad case of how it ended up collapsing into rubble quickly. There is no other impression that can be more appropriate to explain the current situation regarding Embracer Group. The failure to obtain an investment injection worth billions of dollars was the trigger for a “restructuring” process which was not only followed by mass layoffs but also studio closures. Now, they are reportedly ready to sell their two biggest studios – Saber Interactive and Gearbox.
Embracer is reportedly preparing to sell Saber Interactive and Gearbox as part of their new restructuring efforts. Saber Interactive is even said to have found a potential buyer who is ready to spend around USD 500 million to “adopt” them, complete with the rights to the remake of Star Wars: The Knights of the Old Republic itself. Saber Interactive currently has a workforce of approximately 3,500.
Embracer will reportedly sell Saber Interactive and Gearbox Software in the near future.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, Gearbox is also said to be “leaving” Embracer in the near future, with an official announcement estimated to be made next month. Gearbox has reportedly found a potential buyer for their studio and is now in the final negotiation stages. Unfortunately, there is no further information about who the buyers are and how much money they paid.
The departure of these two giant companies from the Embracer Group will of course hurt their potential game libraries. Embracer itself admitted that their “restructuring” process was in the final stages. Who else will be Embracer's next “victim”? Let's just wait.
