International Women's Day is approaching. For video games, this is an opportunity to address the lack of diversity within the industry. And the subject will be dissected in detail with a new event!
March 8, International Women's Day
March 8 is an important day every year. For around a century, it has been an opportunity for women and men around the world to highlight the fight for women's rights and combat persistent inequalities. In the world of video games, this is an opportunity for certain companies to highlight their employees. For example, in 2021, Quantic Dream invited members of its teams to explain “what it means to be a woman in the video game industry in 2021.” In the press, we generally take the opportunity to talk about the most inspiring women or the most badass female characters in video games.
But in the end, we rarely tackle in depth the subject that is most obvious when we talk about video games and International Women's Day: the lack of diversity within the industry. And who better than Women in Games to talk about it? Since 2017, the association has done everything it can to promote diversity, through training, awareness, education and also mutual aid. It is therefore no surprise that this association will tackle the problem of lack of diversity head on this year with an event spread over an entire weekend.
Adelphe Game Fest March 9 and 10
Come to the Cité des sciences on March 9 and 10 for the very first edition of the Adelphe Game Fest. For those wondering, adelphe is a neutral term that encompasses sorority and fraternity. Please note, this event is far from being the result of the sole work of Women in Games. The association has collaborated with Afrogameuses, Project AWR, Witch Gamez, Stream'Her and Game'Her. Each of these associations will host an event online or in person. The program is currently being created and to be discovered ici. At the time of writing, only the Women in Games conference, “Women who shaped the video game industry” is known. It will take place on Saturday March 9 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., online and at the Cité des sciences. To participate in the event, you can register for a free place here. Note that the conference will be followed by a snack allowing you to meet the members of the association.
Women in Games is also taking advantage of this month of March to meet players across France. Lyon, Paris, Bordeaux… Whether over a snack, in a bar or in a studio (in this case Ubisoft Bordeaux), you will be able to interact with its members and find out about the actions of this association. Note that Women in Games is, for example, working on its second Infographic “Women in the video game industry in France” which will make it possible to gather data collected over three years about the place of women in the industry. It will be interesting to see if there is any improvement since the one published in 2022.
