Leading game designer of the TALLBOYS studio Vladimir Semenets and its head Dmitry Shevchenko in an interview with Rock Paper Shotgun shared the details of Militsioner – a surreal immersive sim about escaping from the long arm of the law.
In Militsioner, the hero, arrested for no reason, wants to escape from a provincial town. The task is complicated by a giant policeman who follows the player’s every move and is subject to mood swings.
In the story, the giant presses the ground beneath him, threatening the city with a flood, but does not go anywhere – the game will explain his motives. The developers said that in the event of an unsuccessful escape attempt, a different character will be under the control of the gamer.
The development of Militsioner was planned to be completed in six months, but the team’s gigantic ambitions, including plans for a speech recognition function that was supposed to provide dialogue in real time, did not allow this to be done.
The authors even experimented with ChatGPT version 2.0, but ultimately found such a system too complex to implement and preferred more traditional multiple-choice dialogs (see Firewatch).
Although Militsioner does not yet have a public release date, the team already has an idea when the game should be ready. The project page is available on the Steam digital distribution service.
They promise about 10 hours of gameplay (see 10 minutes of the game below), a giant mood system and freedom in solving problems. The authors were inspired by the games of the Hitman series (escape planning) and Dishonored (immersive sim elements).
