The film began production in Vancouver in January and is scheduled to premiere in 2025.
On Thursday, Disney released the first look at Tron: Ares, the upcoming third film in the Tron franchise, which includes the 1982 original and 2010 sequel Tron: Legacy.
Starring Jared Leto, the film follows the highly complex Ares program as it is sent from the digital world to the real world on a dangerous mission that marks humanity's first encounter with AI creatures.
The director is Joachim Renking, who directed Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil for Disney after his breakthrough with 2012's Kon-Tiki. In addition to Leto, the cast of the series includes Greta Lee (“The Morning Show”), Evan Peters (“Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”), Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan and Gillian Anderson.
Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne wrote the script, with Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Justin Springer, Leto, Emma Ladbrook and Steven Lisberger producing alongside executive producer Russell Allen. The film is scheduled for release in 2025.
