Game lovers must be protected from the corrupting influence of the East.
The Minister of Science and Industry of Canada, Francois-Philippe Champagne, as noted by Bloomberg, on Friday spoke in favor of tightening control over investments in the gaming industry by companies with foreign capital, since he considers such transactions a potential source of danger to national interests in the field information policy.

According to the minister, other states, through companies controlled by them, can disseminate information in the gaming community that is contrary to Canada’s national security interests. Such leverage can be used to manipulate public opinion, according to the country's government. For this reason, large transactions in the gaming industry involving Canadian companies will be subject to careful analysis by national regulators and, if necessary, blocked. Canadian authorities have already cut off Chinese investors' access to lithium deposits in the country, and have also banned Chinese Huawei Technologies from supplying its equipment for 5G communication networks operated in Canada.
