In recent years, it has been easier to find a good phone around 200 euros and 300 euros. If your budget is in this price range, you can find solid devices, with few concessions, for a relatively low price. Moreover, we have unearthed two interesting models for you, one from Motorola with the Edge 30 Neo and the other from Vivo with the V21.
These two models that we tested are currently on sale and are becoming more recommended. But which one should you choose? We will try to enlighten you in your choice through this comparison.
The two smartphones on sale:
A classic design at Vivo, more modern at Motorola
At first glance, both smartphones benefit from good manufacturing quality. The device from the Chinese manufacturer shows a classic design, a little dated, it must be said that this model was released in 2021. We find the small notch in the center of the screen and fairly thin borders, except at the chin level. It offers beautiful finishes, particularly with its glass coating which is pleasant to the touch and offers a good feeling in the hand. For its part, the American firm has designed a beautiful phone with a clean front, which reveals a central punch and very thin borders on a small 6.28 inch panel. On the back, the plastic is quite successful and its smooth surface offers a pleasant touch.

Concerning the photo part, the Edge 30 Neo consists of a main wide-angle sensor of 64 Mpx (f/1.8) supported by an optical stabilizer and autofocus as well as an ultra-wide-angle of 13 Mpx ( f/2.2). The results pleasantly surprised us, with photos with very honorable sharpness, beautiful colorimetry and fairly well rendered details. Even the ultra-wide-angle mode is pleasant to use, unlike the night mode, which is disappointing with shots that are not very usable. The Vivo V21 is based on a triple photo sensor, with a main camera of 64 Mpx (f/1.79), an ultra-wide-angle of 8 Mpx (f/2.2) and a 2 MP macro sensor (f/2.4). The performance of the main sensor is correct with sober color rendering and rather good scene management. We especially appreciate the selfie camera which catches up with everything, and which is of very good quality with its double LEDs.
Pretty screens that are pleasant to use
On entry/mid-range devices, you should expect some concessions and lower your requirements. However, the pioneer telephone brand, Motorola, provides a beautiful 6.28-inch panel: this one is pOled (for Oled plastic), with a Full HD+ definition (2,160 x 1,200 pixels), and a rate adaptive refresh rate that can go up to 120 Hz. It's a pleasure for the peepers, and it's quite rare for this price. It is accompanied by excellent brightness which is close to 1,000 cd/m² and allows it to be used comfortably even in direct sunlight. On that of the Vivo V21, we find an Amoled display with a diagonal of 6.44 inches with a Full HD+ definition, but with a refresh rate capable of climbing to 90 Hz.

For the software part, the Edge 30 Neo comes with Android 12, with a slight MyUX overlay from the brand. We really appreciated the small functions such as controlling the interface using gestures, such as turning on the torch just by shaking the mobile. The level of customization is very limited, but many are comfortable with an interface close to Stock Android. On the other hand, it only benefits from two versions of Android, so it will not go further than Android 14. At Vivo, it is the Funtouch OS 11.1 overlay. with Android 11 that we find. A simple interface, even with some bloatware. Here too, there is a lack of customization and the phone no longer benefits from updates…
Efficient for everyday tasks
The American firm decides to call on Qualcomm to operate its device, while the Chinese manufacturer turns to MediaTek. To go into more detail, the Edge 30 Neo is powered by the Snapdragon 695 5G chip, coupled with 8 GB of RAM. This configuration is enough to run Android and the majority of apps without slowing down. But when it comes to launching a 3D game, it struggles. In our test, we launched Fortnite in medium graphics mode and it fluctuated valiantly between 25 fps and 30 fps, failing to stabilize.
The Vivo V21 integrates the Dimensity 800U associated with 8 GB of RAM. This processor may be from three years ago, but it is comfortable with most tasks: for navigation, music, small games, social networks or even content consumption, the smartphone will not encounter any problems, except for running demanding 3D games.
Similar autonomy, but faster fast charging for one
With a 4,000 mAh battery for the Vivo V21 and 4,020 mAh for the Motorola Edge 30 Neo, we can expect similar battery life between the two devices. During our Viser test protocol, the Vivo phone lasted 14 hours and 5 minutes, which is quite respectable. On the other hand, we were unable to launch the test on that of Motorola.
He will be able to work a short day (8:30 to 10 hours) as long as he does not overuse video games. It can even last a day and a half if you have typical use. Then once the battery is flat, you will be able to count on the 68 W fast charging. Enough to quickly recover energy, moreover, it takes around forty minutes to reach 100%. It is even compatible with wireless charging, but at only 5 W. As for the Vivo V21, it is compatible with 33W fast charging, which allows you to go from 3% to 78% in 45 minutes.
Motorola or Vivo? Which one is right for you?
After having developed the qualities and faults of each, it is time to take stock to help you in your choice. Of course, your needs must be taken into account.
The Motorola Edge 30 Neo benefits from good manufacturing quality, but above all a compact format which will delight those looking for a small smartphone. It's a pleasure to handle, and its panel is not neglected either: we have infinite contrasts, a well-calibrated and fluid display with its 120 Hz refresh rate. It even offers excellent brightness which allows you to 'use comfortably in direct sunlight. Inefficient for launching 3D games, it is sufficient for daily use and recharges very quickly. It's also a good photophone, except for night shots.
The Vivo V21 is a good smartphone for people on a low budget. It doesn't have any major fatal flaws on the horizon, but released more than two years ago, this phone is unfortunately no longer updated. We will still appreciate its careful design, its beautiful fluid Amoled panel which will be ideal for watching video content, or browsing social networks. It lasts a day without flinching, but if you have intensive use, the Edge 30 Neo is more effective in recovering percentages more quickly.
