The time has soon come for Elden Ring to return to the forefront, if indeed it has disappeared: the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion promises to be gargantuan and to reinforce the excitement, game director Miyazaki knows how to talk to the audience.
More depth, more happiness
After having absolutely crushed everything in 2022, Elden Ring is preparing to return two years later with a massive expansion: of the Erdtree is already extremely desired even though it has only just released its first trailer. It must be said that FromSoftware pulls no punches and promises the most massive DLC in its history, just that.
Hidetaka Miyazaki, the iconic head of the game and the studio (whose career is quite astonishing), recently spoke with Eurogamer: the opportunity to reveal certain juicy elements, like the size of the map:
In terms of pure area, it can be said to be larger than Limgrave in the base game.
In fact, beyond the surface area, it is above all the density of the map which promises to be much richer: There we will find “flat” open areas, dungeons… and deeper areas.
This time, we wanted to go deeper and provide a denser and richer level design, which brings together different types of level design in a slightly more transparent way. There will of course be large open areas, there will of course be dungeons, but we've also experimented with something a little more in between those to bring a more diverse gaming experience.
This is our curiosity piqued. As it stands, we don't yet know what exactly Miyazaki is talking about, but it's only a matter of a few months before we can find out all that.
Cold blood always required
In the past, FromSoftware's expansions liked to maintain the difficulty of the original games, or even increase it even further. With Shadow of the Erdtree, you will be delighted to learn that the developers' aim has not changed that much, as Miyazaki once again indicated to Eurogamer.
“We wanted to deliver these tough, high-threat encounters and to do that we wanted to give the player a lot of freedom of approach. We wanted them to feel free in how and when they choose fights. to address and overcome these difficulties”, explains the president of the Japanese studio. As an example, he cites Malenia, a particularly arduous fight. “Players who seek this kind of challenge in our games will also find it equivalently in the DLC.”
Phew, we are reassured. Shadow of the Erdtree sera disponible le 21 juin 2024.
