Naoki Hamaguchi has made it clear that, as director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the game will soon have this patch to improve its visual appearance when played in Performance Mode.

As stated by One More Game, Naoki Hamaguchi visited the Philippines and the director de Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has mentioned this same thing; although he cannot reveal everything it contains.
Although he commented that Square Enix is planning a patch with which the game will be updated and that one of the things that will be fixed will be the visual quality of Rebirth in Performance Mode.
“We've received a lot of feedback about whether the graphics in Performance Mode are going to be improved or not,” Naoki Hamaguchi began.
“We heard you and are currently working on an update patch to improve that aspect. I don't think the release date is too far from now.”
Hamaguchi clarifies that this next patch will solve certain situations in the game where characters become a little scary when lighting hits them from a certain angle.
“We've heard from players that sometimes the facial lighting causes shadows on some characters to look terrifying. That's part of the update we're working on.”

When asked about his mode preference between Fidelity and Performance, he responded quickly and simply: “I like to play other games in Fidelity Mode because I like to see better graphics.”
