A few weeks before the premiere, producer Jonathan Nolan gave us further details about the TV series of “Fallout”. As Nolan explained, his team benefited from a high degree of creative freedom when working on the TV series.
While the official announcement of “Fallout 5” is still a long time coming, it was made in the fall confirmedthat the TV series for “Fallout” will premiere in April.
A few weeks before the start, the responsible producer Jonathan Nolan provided us with further details about the implementation of the TV series. In an interview with Total Film Nolan compared the “Fallout” series with the “Batman” franchise, which also tells a completely new story with each part.
This gives the authors and those responsible a high degree of creative freedom to tell stories, some of which differ significantly from the last games or films. In the case of “Fallout”, this means that the TV series almost feels like “Fallout 5”.
Of course without the interactive elements that we are used to from video games.
TV series is closely related to the games
“Fallout is the closest we've come to adapting Batman in my career. Where there is so much storytelling in the Batman universe and that there is no canon version of it. So you're free to invent your own,” Nolan said.
“Each of the Fallout games is a standalone story – different city, different protagonist – within the same mythology. Our series relates to the games as the games relate to each other.”
“It's almost like we have a Fallout 5. I don't want to sound pretentious, but it's just a non-interactive version of that, right?”
The “Fallout” TV series starts on Friday, April 12, 2024 on Amazon Prime. Bethesda Softworks' Todd Howard served as executive producer on the TV series. This is to ensure that the TV series corresponds to what fans expect from a series adaptation, both in terms of the stories told and the atmosphere.
At the same time, Todd Howard has emphasized several times in the past that the story of the TV series will be part of the canon of the “Fallout” series.
“We consider what happens on the show to be canon,” Howard said in November 2023. “That's the great thing about having someone else look at your work and then implement it in some way.”
