Quite honestly, except for some very specific and professional types of use, I don't understand the need that apparently still exists to purchase a webcam in 2024.
Yes, during the COVID-19 pandemic it actually made some sense, because there weren't laptops for everyone, and of course, the webcams on these same laptops were downright bad (and still are). Therefore, some users had to do something to gain access to team meetings.
But, these days… It doesn't make sense! Especially now! After all, as we already reported a few days ago, Microsoft is going to launch a feature that will “kill” the webcam market forever and ever.
Webcams will disappear. It's a matter of time!
So, is there a better camera than the one on your smartphone? Is it front or is it present in the rear sensor module? It's easy to say that any mid-range or high-end smartphone, in addition to having one or more sensors of undeniable quality, also performs extremely good image processing, and of course, much superior to that of any webcam on the market, whether cheap or expensive. .
Well, that was Microsoft's way of thinking!
This is exactly why Windows 11 will receive extremely interesting functionality. Where it will basically start to be possible to use your smartphone's camera (front or back), in Windows 11, 100% free, with access to all basic features, as well as some extras.
Interestingly, this won't just end the webcam market. It will also (potentially) change the design of future laptops!
In other words, all this means that you can use your phone's cameras on Zoom, Google Meet, Teams and practically everything else, with any filters or other modes available in the app, and presumably also available on Windows.
A new development that will have a huge impact on the sales of webcams. Furthermore, in the near future, it will also change the market for supports for laptops and Desktop PCs. (As you can see in the image above)
Can you imagine a new world in which you can use your smartphone as a second screen, and also as a webcam? With it “attached” to your laptop or Desktop PC with a simple support? It's the future!
