If the Renault 5 E-Tech made the headlines at the start of 2024, Renault's small electric car has not said its last word. The electric R5 indeed has plenty of other versions to come, and there will be something for everyone: more affordable versions, luxurious ones and sporty ones, in short, we tell you everything.

Unless you have been living deep in a cave lately, you have most likely heard of the Renault 5 E-Tech. We went to discover it and we talked to you about lots of things, such as its estimated autonomy on a Paris-Marseille or its system allowing you to save up to 50% of the cost of recharging at home.
The little electric Renault, however, has more than one trick up its sleeve, and promises to be talked about many more times. Many versions will join its range, and we present them to you right here.
What we will have at launch
At its launch in autumnyou will only be able to order the version equipped with a motor of 150 ch (110 kW) and a battery of 52 kWh of capacity, of what to promise 400 kilometers of autonomy on the WLTP mixed cycle. In terms of recharging, a 100 kW charger will allow you to go from 15 to 80% in 30 minutes.

The two best-equipped versions will be on the program: the Techno and the Iconic Cinq, which we will talk about a little further down. This includes the 10.1-inch screen running Google Automotive, 18-inch alloy wheels and hands-free access and starting.
If the prices are not yet official (you will have to wait for orders to open in spring 2024), you should count around 30,000 euros (excluding bonuses), before. see the arrival of two cheaper versions in summer 2025.
Two new, more affordable versions in 2025
This was one of the main arguments of the electric R5: its fixed access price “around 25,000 euros“ , according to Luca de Meo, Renault CEO. A price which should also further decline thanks to the ecological bonus, since the electric Renault 5 is manufactured in France.

To arrive at this price, Renault engineers had to scratch everywhere. The battery goes to 40 kWhenough to still promise 300 km of autonomy, but the charger will not support fast charging. It will therefore be necessary to be satisfied with a charge at 11 kW au maximumenough to make a “full” of 2h30. Not optimal, therefore, for long journeys
This version at 25,000 euros will obviously be less well equipped, without further information. It will probably be necessary to go for hubcaps instead of rims, smaller screens (notably the instrument cluster which will be upgraded to 7 inches), probably no connected services (navigation with planner, in particular) or convenience equipment .

A third version will also arrive in 2025, located between the two versions. She will take over the battery from 40 kWhbut with a more powerful engine 120 ch. The fast charge will be there, but at 80 kW, as will bidirectional charging. It should be available with the majority of finishes.
According to our information, production of the 40 kWh battery should start from March 2025. We can therefore expect to find these versions from summer 2025, why not June. It is rumored that the 120 hp (90 kW) version will arrive a little before the 95 hp (70 kW) version.
“Collections” to come, with a Roland-Garros version planned
On the other side of the spectrum, Renault will market R5s much more upscale, a story of fully surfing the emotional side of the small car and chasing a few sales of the electric Mini. Like the first Renault Twingo of the 90s, Renault will regularly launch “collections” on its most expensive versions.

At launch, we will therefore find the “Iconic Cinq” (which we see in the official photos), with specific style details (two-tone roof, new upholstery and rims), before being replaced by a collection Roland-Garros. A finish that we were used to seeing at Peugeot, but Renault bought the rights and will use it to present a very chic R5.
A version already prefigured by a concept presented (at Roland-Garros, obviously) in 2023. It will probably be necessary to count on a price of minimum 35 000 euros to take advantage of it, while we can quite imagine that it will be available in June 2025for the opening of the Parisian tennis tournament.

Bonus: a very sporty version presented soon
And it does not stop there ! The Renault teams wanted to build on the heritage of the original R5 as much as possible, and should offer a descendant of the legendary R5 Turbo of the 80s. This time, it will be branded Alpine, and will be called the A290.
Alpine is starting to talk a little about this sporty R5, which is finalizing its development. The idea, of course, is to emphasize the driving pleasureand the Alpine should be particularly pleasant thanks to work on the chassis and steering.

No mention of power, even if it will obviously be superior to the “civilian” Renault 5. Perhaps it could use the 220 hp engine from the Mégane E-Tech and Scénic E-Tech? We will have the answer in June 2024probably during the 24 hours of Le Mans, where Alpine entered a hypercar.
Ah, and we could also dream of an even more hardcore version with four wheel drivewhich could be called A290 R. A not so crazy dream, since we know that the AmpR Small platform on which the R5 and the A290 are based is compatible with a second electric motor, from which the next Renault 4 should also benefit.
A real desire for product life
You will have understood: Renault is developing a real long-term strategy for this electric Renault 5, proof of the brand's interest in its latest baby.

With a complete range, ranging from the “first price” to the sporty, including very chic special series, success should undoubtedly be there. 50,000 people have already expressed their interest in the R5, just one week after its presentation; even if these are not outright orders, it proves the general public's interest in the little Renault.
It remains to be seen whether pricing and driving will transform the test. Response in a few months, when orders and official tests are opened.
