The original report on the Manhattan Project, in which the United States created the atomic bomb, is up for auction at the RR Auction site. The report was commissioned by General Leslie Groves shortly before the bomb was tested.
The document, consisting of approximately 200 pages, describes the creation of atomic weapons from both a technical and administrative point of view. The report is not secret: it was published in the press shortly after the attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
It is noteworthy that the original report contains the autographs of all key participants in the Manhattan Project. The document was signed by Robert Oppenheimer, Enrico Fermi, Ernest Lawrence, James Chadwick, and so on.
The state of preservation of the report is assessed as very good. The document—just a stack of sheets of paper stapled together—is a little scuffed and stained, but otherwise fine.
So far, the report on the Manhattan Project is not particularly popular: 9 bids have been made, the document can be bought for $32,211. The price is likely to rise further – trading will continue until March 14.
