Now it will be difficult for Epic Games to launch their store on iOS.
Apple has re-blocked Epic Games' account from its developer infrastructure. The last time the account was blocked was in 2020, when Epic Games tried to circumvent the App Store payment acceptance rules in Fortnite.
The Epic Games account was unblocked when Apple announced the ability to release third-party app stores for iPhone and iPad in the European Union. Epic Games intended to create their own store and release Fortnite in it.
According to correspondence published by Epic Games, Apple representatives asked the company to give a written commitment to “fulfill its obligations.” The implication was that Epic Games would not violate the rules of the Apple ecosystem.
Please explain simply and clearly why we should trust Epic this time.
Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney assured Apple that his company would comply with all terms of the agreements and offered to provide any additional guarantees. Apple was not happy with this: the account was closed.
The response from Apple's lawyers noted that Sweeney's response was “untrustworthy” and “grossly insufficient” and boiled down to the phrase “trust us.” Apple felt that Epic Games was also not trustworthy.
Now Epic Games will try to release Fortnite on iPad and iPhone through a third-party store run by some other company.
